Hey today, I am going to tell you that how can you check the signal strength of your Android cell phone at a specific moment. It is very useful to get the accurate value of network quality of your android device so that you can decide which mobile operator sim card you should use.
But one minute, I think all Android phones have the “bars” graphs that appears on the navigation bar of the mobile that display the network quality so what new are you going to tell us??
I know this question arises in your mind. But my friend, bars graph are just graphical representation, the accuracy of the bars graphic can vary widely between phone models, device manufacturers, and OS. Also there are no standards of the bar graph.
One more thing (only for your knowledge) is that your Android’s signal strength is measured in dBm, or decibel milliwatts, a standard unit of measure signal’s strength. Don’t get nervous that I don’t know all these technical stuff. It is just for your knowledge 🙂
Steps to check Signal Strength
Finding the signal value may varies across device manufactures, phone model etc. The sequence you have to visit is
Setting >> About Phone > (Sim status or Mobile Network) > View Signal Strength, this is typically the navigation path you will find in most of the devices but again saying it may vary.
So today I am going to show the Samsung phone navigation sequence:
- Tap on the
Settingoption of your device. Then after scrolling down to end you will get
About Phoneoption click on it. A new screen will open then select the
- On the very top, you will get
Sim card Statusoption click on it and you will get a screen displaying the Signal Strength value.
What is a good signal strength for a cell phone?
Now the closer to zero the dBm reading is, the stronger the cell phone signal. Below given the details of the different value for different signal strength
|1.||-50 dBm to -79 dBm ( Great signal strength)|
|2.||-80 dBm to -89 dBm (Good signal strength)|
|3.||-90 dBm to -100 dBm (Average signal strength)|
|4.||-100 dBm to -109 dBm (Poor signal strength)|
|5.||above -110 dBm (Very poor strength)|
